Silicon, a typical metalloid

A metalloid, also known as a semimetal, is a group of elements on the periodic table. Their physical properties are between those of metals and those of nonmetals. Silicon is the most common metalloid. It is silvery and somewhat shiny but brittle, not flexible like most metals.
