) was a son of Elimelech and Naomi and husband of Ruth. He married Ruth in Moabite country, lived there for ten years more, and then died. (Ruth 1:1-5 ) His death, and that of his brother, left their father's estate in jeopardy until Boaz redeemed it. (Ruth 4:1-12 )

Meaning of his name

The name Mahlon literally means sick, and connotes an invalid.[1] Most commentators see this condition as an illustration of a common consequence of the fall of man.[2]
