Search for Noah's ark

Mt. Ararat

Explorers have searched a long time for an ark on Mount Ararat, where the biblical account of the Great Flood places it. The story of Noah's Ark is told in the book of Genesis. In the Bible, the purpose of the ark was that God saw how corrupted the earth had become, so he flooded the world. Everything that was living died. All except for Noah, his family, two of every land animal, and seven of every clean animal.(animals that have a cloven hoof and chew their cud). Noah built the ark at 450 feet (137 meters) long, 75 feet (23 meters) wide, and 45 feet (14 meters) high. It rained for 40 days and nights, and after about seven months the water receded. [1]If explorers were able to find Noah's ark it would turn a lot of heads and provide convincing evidence that God does exist and the biblical record of the Great Flood is true. Or it may just be God's plan to keep the ark hidden or destroyed to keep people in faith of Him.

Expeditions

Over the last twenty years the search for Noah's Ark have sky rocketed. Many expeditions to the eastern Ararat region of Turkey, mostly by American Christian groups, have led to numerous claims. There is on the mountainside of Ararat, you see a former "boat shaped object", which has now been proclaimed by the Turkish Government to be "Noah's Ark". They found petrified wood and man-made metals, and called in a journalist to write down their claim. [2]

Eryl Cummings

In the 1970's, Eryl Cummings explored Mt Ararat and wrote several books of his expeditions.

Col James Irwin

One of the most noted explorers to search for Noah's Ark is Col. James B. Irwin. During the 80's Irwin became interested in the search for Noah's Ark and made a total of five expeditions which helped out greatly in the search for the ark on Mt Ararat. He climbed the mountain and surveyed it by aircraft. But Irwin got seriously injured during one his climbs when he was hit in the head by a falling rock. On his last expedition he surveyed the mountain from a helicopter and photos were taken of an object that still remains unknown. Irwin died in 1991 and he wrote about his explorations in his book "More Than an Ark on Ararat," published in 1985.

Ray Anderson

Ray has made multiple climbs up the mountain. He documents all his Ararat explorations on his web site: www.noahsarkfactnotfiction.com [3]

Daniel McGivern

Satellite pictures were taken in the year 2003 of Mount Ararat. Daniel McGivern,a businessman and Christian activist behind a planned summer 2004 expedition to investigate the site, decided that Turkey may reveal the final resting place of Noah's ark. "We're telling people we're 98 percent sure," said McGivern, a member of the Hawaii Christian Coalition. "In one image we saw the beams, saw the wood. I'm convinced that the excavation of the object and the results of tests run on any collected samples will prove that it is Noah's ark."[4] He began his quest for the Ark,which happens to be at the top of his list of ten great projects he wants to accomplish. In 1995, when the publication of a book on the topic moved him to arrange for satellite images to be taken of Mount Ararat. This attempt at taking satelite pictures were ruined because of clouds. In the summer of 2004, he tried again. It was one of the hottest summers which helped in melting the snow. "Last year was the hottest summer in Europe since 1500; more than 21,000 people died of the heat wave," McGivern said. "The summer melt was far more extensive than it has been in years." A commercial satellite-imagery company called DigitalGlobe, confirmed that they took the images that McGivern is using. An international team of archaeologists, forensic scientists, geologists, glaciologists, and others is being recruited to investigate the site sometime between July 15 and August 15 hoping to find more then what McGivern did.

Biblical Description

Noah's Ark, according to the Bible was a very large barge that was made up of wood and was sealed with bitumen. There was a window constructed at the top(Genesis 6:14-16). The overall size of the ark makes it the largest sea vessel known before the 20th century. It is strangely similar to the ocean liners of today. [5]

Noah's Ark

Luke 16:31 "And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead." (If the Ark is found today, scoffers will denounce it!)

Matthew 24:38-39 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. (KJV)

Genesis 8:4 "And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat."
