Old Earth Ministries (formerly known as Answers In Creation) is an old-earth creationist website that was created by Progressive Creationist Greg Neyman in 2003 as a polemic against young earth creationism. Neyman claims that teaching a literal 6-day Genesis puts a stumbling block before those wishing to come to Christ.[1] Neyman claims that all scientists believe the earth to be old, and that those who believe in a "young earth" are merely "theorists".[2]
Neyman affirms Biblical inerrancy[3] and claims that a literal Genesis points to an old earth.[4]
Errors
- Neyman's Biblical hermeneutic is based on the Two-Book Fallacy.
- All throughout the website, Neyman commits a Straw man fallacy by claiming that young earth creationism teaches that you must accept a literal Genesis in order to be saved. However, several YEC organizations have made it painstakingly clear that salvation is NOT contingent on believing a literal Genesis. They have said that a literal Genesis provides a foundation for the Gospel, and so rejecting a literal Genesis leads to inconsistent beliefs[5], but it does not negate one's salvation.[6]
- On one page, Neyman claims that there is no evidence to support a young earth, clearly ignorant of the 101 evidences presented by Creation Ministries International.
Suspicious Tactics
- All throughout the site, Neyman promotes articles from anti-Christians such as Talk.Origins, the National Center for Science Education, the Rationality Now blog, Kevin Henke, and No Answers in Genesis in his attempt to refute young earth creationism, yet those very same people are hostile to his position as well.
- Neyman claims that "the goal of Old Earth Ministries is not to convert young earth creationists"[7], yet he has a 'Testimonies' page where former young earth creationists talk about the evidence that supposedly led them to an old earth view.[8] This seems to be done in an attempt to make proselytes to Old Earth Creationism.
- The site promotes books that are outright hostile to orthodox Christianity, such as Thank God For Evolution by Michael Dowd.[9] Carl Wieland of Creation Ministries International has written about Dowd's dangerous, heretical teachings.[10].
- The site sells bumper stickers that advocate theistic evolution by making use of the Darwin fish.[11] The Darwin fish, however, is meant to mock and oppose Christianity.
