American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) is an international non-profit organization founded in 1848. The organization has the stated goals of advancing science around the world, promoting cooperation among scientists, defending scientific freedom, encouraging scientific responsibility, and supporting scientific education and science outreach for the betterment of all humanity. Stephen Jay Gould was its president from 1999 through 2001.[1] AAAS publishes the journal Science.[2]
