Response Article
This article (Crime rates etc. have increased since evolution began to be taught (Talk.Origins)) is a response to a rebuttal of a creationist claim published by Talk.Origins Archive under the title Index to Creationist Claims.

Claim CA001.1:

Since evolution began to be taught in public schools, crime rates and other social ills have increased.

Source: Living Word Bible Church, n.d. The result of believing evolution. http://www.lwbc.co.uk/Genesis/results%20of%20believing%20evolution.htm

CreationWiki response:

The problem with this claim is that it is too vague and without any evidence to back it up. To properly make the claim one would have to show a reasonably close correlation, not just a vague claim of crime rates having "increased".

(Talk.Origins quotes in blue)

2. Correlation does not imply causation. Since the teaching of evolution, death rates from most cancers have decreased, air travel has increased, and the earth's temperature has risen, but we do not attribute any of those to teaching evolution.

Without some evidence to demonstrate a reasonably close correlation between the education of evolution in government schools and certain crimes, this claim should not be made. Even then, it would not be proved unless proper studies were done. The rise of crime rates and other social ills may be the combination of a number of factors, which may or may not include the teaching of evolution in government schools.

Claims should be made which are more testable. For example (we are not claiming this), those who believe in evolution are 10% more likely to commit a violent crime. Such general statements as those above are unprovable.
