Gary Bates
Gary Bates é um ex-evolucionista comprometido, que agora é um evangelista criacionista ativo que esteve envolvido com o debate criação/evolução desde 1990. Ele se tornou o chefe de ministério para o Creation Ministries International na Austrália e, em seguida, no final de 2009, mudou-se para os Estados Unidos e se tornou o CEO do CMI nos Estados Unidos. Em novembro de 2008, Bates se tornou o primeiro CEO do CMI Worldwide, a federação dos Ministérios CMI em todo o mundo.[1]
Ele também é um colaborador regular da revista Creation, e é membro da equipe editorial da revista.
Bates tem um grande interesse no fenômeno OVNI e escreveu o best-seller (que ficou entre os top 50 da Amazon.com) Alien Intrusion: UFOs and the Evolution Connection (Invasão Alienígena: OVNIs e a Conexão com a Evolução). Em julho de 2009, ele foi o principal palestrante no primeiro simpósio cristão sobre o fenômeno dos OVNIs, realizado em Roswell, no Novo México.[2]
Em maio de 2010, no Creation Supercamp em Asheville, na Carolina do Norte, Bates incentivou o uso do termo "criacionistas bíblicos" no lugar de "criacionistas da Terra jovem". Isso foi mais tarde repetido em um artigo de boletim, em setembro do mesmo ano, e mais tarde publicado no site do CMI.[3]
