Tom is a product of creation evangelism. Born in Syracuse, New York, he was weaned on evolution all through his public school and university education. As he reflects on this time of his life, it was the “evolution-is-science” mantra that was a major barrier to the Gospel. He would have nothing to do with Christianity because he knew "science" had shown that there was either no Creator or very little evidence for one. He had never heard the creation perspective before. Scientists were not present at the beginning and don't know the initial conditions, so they must conjecture based on preconceived philosophical assumptions. This is not science and he had never considered that before. He hadn't realized that the only view he had been "brainwashed" with was based on the atheistic philosophy of naturalistic materialism. It wasn’t until two men shared the case for creation with Tom that his whole world-view was turned on its head. This “trauma”, combined with a series of events where he observed specific prayer being answered, opened his heart to both hearing and responding to the Gospel of Christ. He learned that he needed to give his life to the Creator and Saviour, for it was Christ's loving grace and shed blood that provided his salvation as he put faith in God and serve Him alone. Tom has spent many years studying science and has an A.A.S in Forest Technology, a B.S. in Natural Resources Management, and Masters degrees in both Education and Ecology. When he is not teaching, reading or writing, you may find him studying forest and wetland plants, observing spring amphibian migrations, sampling small mammal populations, mist netting bats or processing endangered rattlesnakes while trying to understand the connections between habitat structure and rattlesnake survival. He has also had opportunities to study in places such as Alaska, the Pacific Northwest and the Galapagos archipelago. Tom's real passion is creation ministry and providing a classroom where students can critically think through origins issues. Opportunities to share the love of Christ through God's Creation have come through venues such as wilderness backpacking trips, nature walks, youth groups, Sunday School classes, zoo tours and speaking at local churches. He is an active member of the Creation Research Society and the Baraminology Study Group and writes for Creation magazine and Creation Illustrated. Today, married with four children, he teaches science in upstate New York and spends the summers in the field.
