I was raised in a family with roots in both science and religion. My father was a chemistry professor at a small liberal arts college in East Tennessee and a leader in our local church. For this reason, I was educated in both science and the Bible at a very early age. I became an aspiring young biologist and came to a major dilemma. I had to choose between Adam and Eve in the Garden and apes and cavemen as our ancestors. Due to the convincing arguments of our science teachers, my choice was the apemen. In doing so, I accepted the concept of evolution, which meant to me that we have no purpose and there are no consequences for our actions. These became guiding principles in my life and led me to do many things that God (if he existed) would not approve of.
I continued my studies and received a B.S. in Marine Biology from Texas A&M at Galveston. I was hired on as Maturation Manager at Laguna Madre Shrimp Farms in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas. In the Valley, I became a committed Christian in 1988. I have walked with Christ since then. One of the things that has most changed my life was the influence of some young biologists who were Christians and avowed creationists.
In the last few years, the Holy Spirit has been prompting me to speak out about my views on the evolution/creation controversy. God has put it on my heart to share my story mostly with young people. There are two groups that I address - young believers and young skeptics. I want the young believers to be equipped for when they hear the evolutionary evangelists in the classrooms. No one was there to equip me for it. I threw away some of the best years of my life believing that we have no purpose and there are no consequences for my actions. I want the young skeptics to hear an alternative view from what they get in school. Many of the youth today have never been inside a church and have no idea that there is a God who created them, loves them, and wants to have a relationship with them. My goal is to introduce them to our God and his Son, Jesus.
