Siegfried Scherer
Prof. Dr. Siegfried Scherer was born in April 7, 1955 in Oberndorf am Neckar, Germany. He studied Biology, Chemistry and Physics at the University of Konstanz. In 1977 he graduated in Chemistry and Physics, in 1980 he graduated in Biology. In this subject he received his Ph.D. in 1983. In 1991 he habilitated in Plant Physiology and Microbial Ecology. Fields of research included Photosynthesis, respiration and nitrogen fixation of cyanobacteria, Biochemistry of respiratory electron transport of cyanobacteria, Proton translocation across the cytoplasmic membrane, Molecular biology of bacteriophage. He was awarded and honored with several academic prizes.
His current fields of research are Microbial Ecology, Food Microbiology, Taxonomy and Evolution. He holds the chair for Microbial Ecology in the Department of Biosciences at the Technische Universität München, Germany.
