Proverbs refers to the statements of wisdom and right living as written down in the Biblical book of the same name. The purpose of the Proverbs was to give an instruction in morals, giving the reader a clear distinction between righteousness and sin, wisdom and folly.
Authors
Solomon is credited with writing a large number of proverbs prior to ca 931 BC, prior to his decline, with Agur and Lemuel placing their own words later in chapters 30 and 31. The work as a whole was probably collected later by King Hezekiah (715-686 BC) and others.
