Summary
composite sketch of the ropen of Papua New Guinea (by Jonathan Whitcomb) - from descriptions by Duane Hodgkinson (USA), Brian Hennessy (Australia-China), an Australian couple who wish to be anonymous, Gideon Koro (Papua New Guinea), and Jonah Jim (also of PNG). Some compromise in wingspan and wing-shape may create a distortion: The Australian couple's sighting seems to have been of a species or sub-species with a shorter wingspan that what is here indicated; the curve of the wings comes mostly from this couple's description. The head-beak shape is mostly from Hodgkinson and Hennessy, who give very similar descriptions; this also relates to the "Sordes Pilosus" choice of Jonah Jim.
