Magnesium is a very abundant, light and reactive element, which is essential to life. In nature, it is found in many minerals, like in talc. Elemental magnesium burns with a bright, white flame and a temperature of more than 3000 K. This once was used as flashlight for photography and is still used in underwater torches.
