Summary
Bryzoan species are often confused with coral. However, bryozoans comprise a unique phylum of colonial invertebrates otherwise known as "moss animals". Individual bryozoan animals group together to form a colony called a zooid, which shares one common digestive and reproductive system. Colonies of zooids are found attached to kelp, sand, rocks and other animals. (photo: Shane Anderson)
